The beast known as Arucard
Arucard (who from here on out shall be refered to as simply Aru) is perhaps one of the most disturbing
and sexy men to ever grace my screen. He's, above all else, an extremely powerful preternatural being, a vampire if you will, who is more
often than not just playing with his 'victims' in fights, suchas Alexander Anderson. He tends to hold back, but come in in
just the nick of time (... reminds me of Goku in that way) to save whatever day needs saving. Even though he seems to hold little
regard for anything in this world (beyond Integra and, from what I've garnered, Seras), Aru still fights the 'good' fight of
wiping the mindless drone vampires who seek only destruction from the world. He's like a kind of organised chaos.
the former human Seras Victoria
Seras Victoria (who from here on out shall just be Seras) was once just a normal 'police girl' (which is
referenced many times in the dub when Aru calls her just that), until one night on what can only be considered a routine outting, she
encountered ghouls, and a priest who'd been making them. For then, she didn't believe in all the preternatural, supernatural bull that
seemed to be flowing around, until she nearly got herself killed and vamped up by our lovely Aru. From there on out and through
the entire series, she's seen fighting herself becoming the monster she glady gave herself up to be (he did ask permission, of course),
yet sooner or later gives into her urges, and sometimes is even seen losing control. And sometimes... only Aru can bring her back.
two become one in the pair
Aru and Seras have one of the most complex, and most simplistic relationships all at the same time. A master
'servant'. A teacher and student. A lover and a friend, all wrapped up into bloody love that we all seem so utterly attracted to. It's hard to
imagine Hellsing without these two actually having that kind of dynamic. She always seems to have this feeling he's pushing her
along. Always there, always guiding, and you can actually see it sometimes, when he's there, when he flows down over her in moments when she
needs him. Including one of my favourite scenes with the first appearance of Alexander Anderson, when he comes in after her falling
and just owns the hell out of the supposed Priest, even through adversity. Personally, I love the thought of them as a romantic
pairing, spliced with bits of friendship, love, and teaching, but it's up to you decide how you take it all. Watch the series, and decide.
